It depends on your needs
Eminance (front-end) is a Microsoft Windows based application. It is designed to run either on a single PC or a multi-user networked environment. The database can run on a variety of platforms. The hardware requirements depend mainly on the needs of your practice.
The program can run on business class desktop computers, laptop computers, thin-client workstations, and/or tablet PC's. Pocket PCs, PDA's and web enabled cell phones can be used for off-site data collection and a number of limited functions. We recommend Sun servers for the larger clinics (50+ workstations)
Server Requirements
Eminance uses the Interbase database and workstations are connected to the server via either direct wiring or a wireless network. In a small practice, the workstation can act as the server. In addition to the Server, additional ‘terminal servers' may be employed if your practice decides to implement a ‘thin-client' architecture. A ‘thin-client' architecture consists of ‘thin-client' workstations connected to one or more Microsoft terminal servers that are used by your staff to run Eminance. A ‘thin-client' workstation consists of a Windows-based terminal, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and network connection. To the end user, the ‘thin-client' machine appears to be a standard desktop computer running Microsoft Windows, but in reality it is just a terminal to one or more shared ‘terminal servers' that actually run Eminance. The advantages of a thin-client architecture include lower acquisition and operational costs, longer life span, enhanced security, minimal physical space requirements, and greatly reduced maintenance. The speed of access and performance is directly linked to the type of server you choose.
Workstation Requirements
Staff members who work from a single, fixed location (like your receptionist) will typically opt for a desktop computer. Mobile staff members such as nurses may also opt for a fixed computer at every work location. Or, mobile staff members may select a portable computer such as a laptop or tablet PC. Portable computers are typically used in a wireless environment but they can be hardwired as well. PDA's and cell phones are designed for the practitioner on the move, but E=mc can be used on a wireless notebook in satellite practices. Health Focus does not supply hardware, but will work with you to select the right equipment.
